James Dyson Foundation 3D Printing Challenge
Theme: 3D tessellations

Objective: Teams to print repeated self-designed shapes that can be combined to form various shapes and objects.

Background: In Singapore, most houses (HDB, BTO) are made from prefabricated sections and assembled on site. Similarly, tunnel boring machines used to construct MRT lines also simultaneously line the tunnel walls with concrete slabs. Using this principle of individual pieces combining to form a structure, this challenge asks students to look further and produce designs that incorporate tessellations to create everyday objects, with the hopes that down the line, this method could be used in the construction or offshore industry for speedy construction using additive manufacturing.
Final Product:

Testing Methods:
1. Forming various shapes and structures
2. Weight-bearing capability of beams
Design Process:
Our team adopted the Double Diamond Design Process:
1. Discover 2. Define 3. Develop 4. Deliver
The Team:
This Team Project was completed in Dec 2023 as part of
SUTD's Industry 4.0 & 3D Printing Module.
